What Is a Talent Advisor?
Finding the right job match in the skilled trades takes more than knowing who’s available and who’s hiring. It means understanding the tradesperson, the contractor, the project, and the details that make a placement actually work.
That’s the job of an X3 Talent Advisor.
Talent Advisors work directly with electricians, plumbers, and HVAC professionals to understand their experience, goals, and availability, then connect them with the right opportunities. They also work directly with clients to understand each order and find the right person for the job, fast.
Here’s what that looks like in practice, for both sides.
For Talent: Getting to Know You First
Every tradesperson brings something different to the table. Some have years of commercial experience. Others are building toward the next skill level. Some want steady local work, others are open to travel or overtime.
Your Talent Advisor learns those details before recommending anything.
During onboarding, they’ll interview you, review your work history, ask about trade-specific experience, call references, and screen your qualifications. Specifically, they’re looking at:
- Trade and skill level
- Commercial, industrial, or other relevant project experience
- Tools, certifications, and safety background
- Reliability, communication, and job history
- Schedule, commute, availability, and long-term goals
The goal isn’t to place you as fast as possible. It’s to get the fit right from the start, so you walk onto a job site prepared and set up to succeed.
Working for You
Your Talent Advisor also works for you between assignments. They don’t wait around for an order to open before thinking of you.
If you’re a strong journeyman electrician, plumber, or HVAC pro, they’ll proactively pitch your experience to clients who could use it, even before a formal order exists. That means less time waiting between jobs.
They stay involved the whole way through: confirming job details and what to bring before you start, checking in while you’re on the job, and helping line up what’s next when an assignment wraps.
For Clients: One Point of Contact, Start to Finish
Once your service agreement is signed and an order opens, your Talent Advisor becomes your direct point of contact. They gather what they need to fill the order right the first time, including:
- Trade and skill level needed
- Number of workers
- Project location, start date, and schedule
- Hours, overtime, and project duration
- Who Talent reports to on site
- Required tools, PPE, certifications, or licenses
- Scope of work
- Site access requirements (safety, parking, badging, orientation)
- What traits or experience would make someone a strong fit for your crew
From there, they manage communication between you and available Talent, matching the specifics of your order to the right person rather than the first available one. Your Workforcing Advisor stays in the loop throughout this process.
Why It’s Built This Way
The skilled trades run on trust, reliability, and craftsmanship. The Talent Advisor role is built around those same values.
For Talent, it means a consistent point of contact who knows your background and advocates for you, so you spend less time waiting and more time working.
For clients, it means accurate orders, better-fit candidates, and one person to call instead of a call center.
It comes down to one idea: skilled tradespeople should be treated as skilled Talent, not names on a list, and clients should get a partner who actually knows who they’re sending.
