Construction Safety Week – Safety Story Results

During this year’s Construction Safety Week, X3 launched our Safety Story Contest to recognize the tradespeople who go above and beyond to create safer job sites every day.

We asked our Talent to share real stories about safety awareness, hazard prevention, speaking up, or helping protect others on the job site. The response was incredible.

Across multiple job sites and trades, we received stories that captured exactly what Construction Safety Week is about: looking out for one another, making smart decisions, and having the courage to take action before an accident happens.

After reviewing all submissions, our team selected five standout stories that best represented X3’s commitment to a safety-first culture.

Featured Safety Stories From the Field

Every story submitted during our Safety Story Contest highlighted the importance of awareness, accountability, and looking out for others on the job site. From preventing potential injuries to speaking up about unsafe conditions, these moments represent the safety-first mindset that helps protect everyone in the construction industry.

Below are the five selected stories that stood out.

Story 1: One Tie-Off Prevented a Serious Accident

I was on a lift with my drill tied off, but I accidentally dropped it. It could have hit someone below me, but because it was securely tied off, it was caught by the harness and didn’t fall or hurt anyone.

Story 2: Looking Out for Another Tradesman

We were putting together plenums and take-offs, and a gentleman from another company didn’t have the proper PPE and was working with his bare hands. I quickly ran to my car and grabbed a pair of Level 1 cut gloves for him. I told him I’d rather he have them than slice his hand open.

Story 3: Speaking Up When It Matters Most

While someone was installing roof bolts, my supervisor told me to go ahead of the bolter, even though I knew I shouldn’t. I told my buddy to say something, but he didn’t want to get in trouble, so I did. He thanked me and said he was just in a hurry. It felt good to do the right thing.

Story 4: Stopping Work Before Someone Got Hurt

My coworker and I were instructed to work in an elevator shaft area where the platform was unstable. We immediately contacted the safety on site and let him know about the situation. He stopped work because the platform was not structurally approved for work.

Story 5: Safety Through Leadership

A young first-year was cutting pipe ends and leaving them around as slip/trip hazards. I picked up the pieces and talked with him about why it’s important to keep a clean work environment.

Story 6: See Something Say Something

I was in a new-construction home, and as I walked around, I noticed that the back porch, which was up high, had no safety railings of any kind. I talked to the supervisor to ask if there was any way that he could get a temporary railing installed so nobody falls over the edge. That same day, he had a railing installed.

Story 7: A Simple Callout That Prevented a Collision

I was carrying a bundle of pipe through a house, and as I turned the corner, I almost ran into another guy carrying copper the other way. After that, we started yelling around the corners before walking through tight spots. It might sound silly, but it has really helped on busy job sites.

Story 8: Taking Five Minutes to Prevent a Fall

One time, while walking into a location on-site, I saw things all over the floor, creating a major tripping hazard. So I took the time to organize everything and ensure the floor was clear of any hazards.
